Purpose of Life
God's Purpose
In this universe everything is there for a purpose, trees, the sun even the moon,
the atmosphere in which we live all are destined with a purpose. The mountains apart from being a beautiful sight
to watch help in rainfall and other climatic conditions. The thumb of man has a purpose, what is the purpose behind man?
The Bible tells us that man is here for a purpose, in the very beginning it says
"And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." (Genesis 1:2),
also saint Paul says "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." (1corinthians 3:16-17).
there are many things told here, first of God's requirement which in his self sufficiency he created all that exists, unlike man who can only make things for his requirement from existing ones.
Man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) someone who could be God's companion, to dwell with him. God did not make us his slave but gave us 'freewill', the power to choose. He wanted man to obey him
not reluctantly but with pleasure knowing that in him was our goowill. As he is the source of life (Acts 17:25) abiding in him is our welfare.
Man's Failure
Now, what does it mean, to defile the temple of God? It means to make use of something in another way than what it is meant for (like killing a person with a knife instead of cutting vegetables with it).
There are men who do not accept God (atheists) or rather do not want to accept him. As saint Paul says "because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." (Romans 1:19-20).
There are people who believe in God but are either unaware or do not think that God has any purpose in their lives. Most people are living their lives according to themselves, they do what they feel like.
Some people live for themselves, some for family or friends, some for society or country and some just for the sake of living.
The Bible tells us that man is made to serve God's purpose, all the other things around man are provided by God to fulfill the purpose of man.
If man fulfills the purpose of God, God will fulfill the purpose of man. He will be blessed by God in all his ways, if his ways are acceptable to God. If we serve God's purpose we are at peace with ourselfs because we make peace with God.
A newborn baby need not be taught where to get his food from, man knew of his spiritual purpose from the very beginning but man has failed God. The Bible says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23).
What is sin? The bible says, "For sin is the transgression of the law." (1John 3:4). What is God's law? The Bible says, "Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another." (Romans 2:15).
There are three important things that God wants from man according to the Bible. God's purpose for man is (1) To love God, "And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." (Deuteronomy 6:5). No other object, person or anything should be held more important other than God. (2) To obey God and (3) To worship (serve) him, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." (Romans 12:1, Deuteronomy 6:6,13).
Man is continuously defiling himself making himself unholy and unfit for serving God's purpose. In failing God man is losing his own blessings.
God's Amendment
No matter one has amassed any amount of wealth, power, fame, luxury or anything a man could desire of or obtain in this world he will never be truly satisfied untill he has fulfilled God's purpose in his life.
As we fulfill in our lives what we were meant for our life becomes worth living while if we hold on to other things in our lives we are bound to lose our joy of living. Many people who tend to look successful in their lives outwardly may not be contented from inside,
we know of many famous personalities who had everything this world could give but they ended their lives.
The Bible says, that the failure of man led God to device a way out of this. God chose a man called 'Abraham' and promised him "I will make of thee a great nation, and i will bless thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:3).
The nation of Israel stands today against all odds fulfilling the promise of God, its rebirth is an amazing his-story in itself.
We can also see here that God is a God of all men and he not only blessed the jewish people but all the families of the earth.
Jesus said to the samaritan woman "Ye worship ye know not what, for salvation is of the jews." (John 4:22). The woman replied "I know that 'Messiah' cometh, which is called Christ when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus said to her "I that speak unto thee am he." (John 4:25-26).
Jesus said to Nicodemus "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:16-17).
The Bible teaches us that "For God shall bring every work into judgement, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil." (Ecclesiastes 12:14), that no one can stand before God without any blemish (Psalms 14:3), that God sent his son 'Jesus' into this world
to die for our sins (1Corinthians 15:3), and whoever accepts Jesus, his sins will be forgiven. As Paul says "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:1).
